"CROSSING ARIZONA"
Heightened security in California and Texas has pushed illegal border-crossers into the treacherous Arizona desert in unprecedented numbers - an estimated 4,500 a day. Most are men in search of work, but increasingly the border-crossers are women and children seeking to reunite with their families. This influx of migrants crossing through Arizona and the attendant rising death toll have elicited complicated feelings about human rights, culture, class, labor and national security.

DORR CAMPAIGN HEADQUARTERS
DORR ELECTION HEADQUARTERS 2010
The new DORR office was officially opened on June 6th, though we were operating a few weeks before that. Every election year, we open an office for approximately 6 months, in order to help support Democratic candidates and campaigns. Our goal is to win in November! The Office is manned (or womanned too) by volunteers every day, except Sundays. Currently, we are only open a couple of hours a day (11-1:00). However, those hours are often extended by meetings, trainings, and other activities, such as helping with our big Permanent Early Voting List (PEVL) campaign. This involves stuffing envelopes and making phone calls.
In addition, two other groups, Organizing for America and Ann Kirkpatrick's Campaign, are using the office on Thursdays and Wednesday afternoons respectively.
Volunteers are ALWAYS welcome. Either drop by or call us at (928)203-5858. After the Primary election, August 24, and as we move toward November, our hours will be extended and more helpers will be needed. Let's make sure we do OUR best to elect OUR Candidates! Let's ensure Ann is re-elected to CD1 and we clean out the State Legislature! See a list of our Candidates here.

Had Enough?!
Republicans have controlled the Arizona Legislature for 40 years. This is what they are focusing on now...
1. Elimination of healthcare for children (KidsCare/Medicare)
2. Keeping single people from adopting
3. Reducing the budget so we have fewer police officers on the streets
4. Reducing funds to education so our classroom sizes increase and jobs are lost
5. Closing state parks and rest stops and making it very expensive to re-open them after months/years of deterioration and neglect
6. Eliminating the office of tourism and possibly the juvenile corrections program
7. Eliminating the concealed weapons laws
8. Allowing automatic weapons to be made and sold in Arizona
9. Passing an immigration bill that doesn't address the real issues of crime and violence on our borders and in our neighborhoods
10. Giving tax breaks to corporations and the rich on the backs of the middle class
How do we elect Democrats so that we can solve the huge problems facing the state of Arizona?
We HAVE to support a grass roots effort to get out the vote for the Democratic Party in the coming elections for state-wide and local offices.
Because Democratic candidates for state offices don't get enough funds from the Clean Elections Funds, and they cannot ask private donors for funds once they agree to take state funds, they depend heavily on the Democratic Party organizations.
So it falls to Arizona Democratic Party organizations to do the grunt work! It will take a strong, well-funded Party to perform the basic labor of identifying and energizing a mass electorate.

The DORR Board Condemns Arizona 1070,
Supports Comprehensive National Immigration Reform Based on the Traditional America Values of Compassion and Practical Good Sense.
The United States, like all countries, has a right to a reasonable and balanced control of its borders and an orderly immigration policy. DORR supports badly needed national comprehensive immigration reform. However, Arizona Law 1070 is an extreme, irresponsible and unconstitutional response. When the double talk is said and done, this law is aimed at the Arizona's Hispanic population and involves racial profiling. The last minute change of language, from not using what amounts to racial profiling as the only reason for 'reasonable suspicion' to 'not using racial profiling' was an attempt to blur the obviously unconstitutional nature of the statute. As supporters of 1070 have said, the amended law changes nothing in the way the statute would actually be used in practice. 1070 will encourage an enforcement policy that covers up its reliance on unconstitutional racial profiling. Making the law less obvious and less honest is not an improvement. Not a single Democrat in the Arizona Senate or House voted for the law for good reason.

The Southern Poverty Law Center, which has monitored hate groups for decades, has listed FAIR as an anti-immigrant hate group since 2007. FAIR has accepted $1.2 million from the Pioneer Fund, a foundation established to promote the genes of white colonials and fund studies of race, intelligence and genetics. It is sponsored by Representative Russell Pearce who was recently caught forwarding a white supremacist email to his followers. These connections to the bill are not accidents.
