Responses to Questionnaire 2010

Return to previous page.

All candidates have received the questionnaire and here are the answers DORR received in the order in which we received them. It will be very difficult for voters to select a candidate who chooses not to respond.

What do you think in your background, experience and philosophy will bring something unique and different to the City Council?

Dan McIlroy -- If I am elected to the Sedona City Council, I will bring my full time, energy and interest to the problems facing our beautiful and unique city. I will apply my thirty years of military experience, my thirty-seven years as an attorney, and my twenty-seven years as a felony and homocide prosecutor to the council. I have no agenda, or ambition for higher office. I will bring independent judgment, and an honest heart to serve. I will listen to my fellow residents and I will tell them the truth, even if that is not what they may want to hear. I will serve one four year term and go home.

Michael Ward --   I strongly believe that the citizens of Sedona need to be included in the decision processes of the City Council. I have extensive experience in collaboratively working with diverse groups of people to solve problems and address actions that need to be taken. I believe that there is now ownership to god ideas. Good ideas evolve by listening to others, evaluating their ideas and folding them int a solution of a problem. I have a strong sense of community service as demonstrated in my community involvement since moving here and I believe that together we can make Sedona a better place to live, work, conduct business, and

Rob Adams -- I try to find a balance between environmental stewardship and fiscal responsibility. I am a businessman that understands that our economy is based on visitor’s desire to experience our beautiful natural environment. The city of Sedona should make every attempt to be in harmony with this environment.

Barbara Litrell -- I favor listening to and following the will of the people, fiscal integrity and wisdom, and protection of our environment and quality of life. I bring to Council a high energy level and over 30 years experience in education, business, non-profit management and community service. I look forward to contributing fresh ideas and new perspectives to governance in Sedona. My diverse career experience, network of relationships in Sedona and beyond Sedona, proven communication skills, a track record of innovative ideas, and the energy and “know-how” to implement new projects, have benefited the people, businesses and organizations of Sedona for the past 8 years. If I, along with a great team of volunteers, can motivate over 500 people to come together to do good deeds for each other on Mitzvah (Good Deed) Day, imagine what we can do together to ensure a bright future for Sedona!

Dennis Rayner -- My educational background and experience will be useful on City Council. After obtaining a B.A. in chemistry (SUNY Buffalo, 1964), I earned a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Princeton University (1967). My post-doctoral studies at UCLA were followed by 32 years employment at the DuPont Company in Wilmington, DE. During that time I carried out consumer focused basic research and supervised a large group of scientists and technicians. I have strong listening skills; the ability to analyze broad complex issues and an open mind to new ‘outside the box’ ideas, which is essential in research. My career also gave me valuable experience listening to and working with diverse groups of people, including other scientists and engineers, customers, marketing and sales, and representatives of international companies and delegations.

Nancy Scagnelli -- I am a 36-year Sedona resident and business owner, and I raised my family here. I bring an understanding of our diverse community and the history of the issues that Sedona faces. My strengths are my common sense, reasoning skills, experience and fortitude to make the tough decisions when necessary. I look at the big picture, never at an issue through a straw. I am an independent thinker and I do not represent any special interest group.

Dan Surber --   I have been a resident of Sedona for 24 years. Over the years I believe I have established strong relationships and many partnerships within the community of Sedona. I will represent and listen to our diverse community and not focus on one special interest or issue. I will be fair, logical and willing to do my homework when making a decision and know that I will be able to work respectfully with other councilpersons. Through my education and Architectural experience I have learned how to look at the issue, gather all pertinent information, analyze possible solutions and come up with the best solution. I will continue to listen, analyze and come up with the solution that will best benefit the community of Sedona.

Jeffrey Sietz -- No response!

Jerry Frey -- No response!
